Taqwacore: Muslim Punk Rock

First of all, Eid Mubarak! to all our Muslim brothers and sisters from all over the world, especially to all the muslim filipinos here and abroad.

The Punk rock scene is so diverse and complex that it is not only about social and political issues which often are the content of the loud and fast music of punk, it also has a subculture which deals about the culture, interpretation, and also the representation of the islamic rock music: The Taqwacore.

Taqwacore was originally conceived in the 2003 novel by Michael Muhammad Knight, The Taqwacores. The name is a combination of the word Hardcore and the arabic word Taqwa which means "piety" or "God-fearing". Here are some of the Taqwacore bands.
